Anna and Mimi sampling soil in Quercus gambelii groves just outside NHMU on March 30, 2017. We’ve enjoyed a wet spring, so the soil was soft and sampling was pretty easy. After sampling, Anna and Mimi extracted DNA using two different soil extraction kits so they could be compared side-by-side. This is all in preparation for Anna’s project to identify fungi that occur in contaminated soils around mine sites.
